We are very lucky to have wonderful restaurants in Oldetown.  Recently, local attorney Jorge Flores opened Las Flores Mex. Las Flores has been very well received.

Las Flores joins our other wonderful eateries, including the Whistle Post Tavern, the Thai Palace, Evans Pharmacy's wonderful counter, the Olde Town Sandwich Shop, the Borage Grill, the Greek Pizza House, Renaissance Pointe, Club 908, Fonda la Oaxaquena and many others.

Recently, local author Mr. Huckaby wrote about his pleasant experiences at Sharon's Southern Cooking.

It's all good.  Please support our local businesses.

Filming in Olde Town Conyers PDF   E-mail

Atlanta-based Stateline Films filmed scenes for a Turner Productions Webisode  in Olde Town Conyers on March 3rd and 4th, 2010.

An Assistant Director interviewed by me said that the TV show's name is to be determined, although other media reported it as "Gillian in Georgia."  If the show is selected then they will be in Conyers more often.  So if you see someone that you think you've seen on TV shows - you are likely to be right.

On March 3rd the crew were filming all day in house shown in the photo on the top left.  Do you recognize that house?  (It is on North Main Street.)  On March 4th the crew were busy filming on Center Street and Commercial Street.

An Interview With Our Own D. Morgan. PDF   E-mail

Famous OTC artist D. Morgan, per an interview from a couple of years ago:

(You can see and purchase her art through her web site)

Have you lived in Georgia all your life?

I was born in Atlanta, and I have lived in Georgia all my life.

Were there any early influences that contributed to your love of art?

My daddy was the greatest influence in my life. My love of art was because of him. He was so kind and patient, and encouraged me to paint with him when I was a small child. Daddy was a splendid teacher. From him, I learned color theory, taking care of fine brushes, techniques and impressionism.

Tell us about your art training and how you developed your own style.

After graduating from high school, my formal art training was at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. My classes in design and composition were favorites. When I first began doing art shows in 1972, I wrote the titles of each on the drawing or painting. People seemed to really enjoy my “one line titles,” so I began elaborating to include my original verse as part of the painting composition. Collectors have continued to respond in a very positive way.

Including your own words with each of your paintings has become an important part of your signature style. When did you start doing this?

I had written verse for years, and when I included feelings in a painting, I realized how much the written word can enhance joy and ease the pain during grief therapy.
